I along with three of my friends started our road trip to
Tajpur beach. We were really excited for this trip as we had planned to go by
bikes. Everyone said it’s risky and you guys should not travel by bikes for 180
kilometers, but we ignored because we wanted to experience this adventure.
Tajpur is in East Medinipur district of West Bengal and the
beach is in between Mandarmani and Shankarpur. This beach is often referred as
a virgin beach as it sees very less footfalls and that is the charm of this
beach, as you would feel like walking on a private beach, without any noise of
the crowd and not to forget, no photo bumps..
Two bikes and four of us (Sidhartha, Issan, Roop and
Abhishekh) started our journey. We had a TVS Apache RTR 200(1month old) and a
Yamaha R15 (just old). Our first halt was supposed to be at Kolaghat for
breakfast. The rain God was kind for one and a half hours till 7 AM. We were
enjoying the smooth ride and view. Suddenly Roop’s bike (Apache) developed a
problem and was stopping every 3-4 minutes. To add to the tragedy it started drizzling at
first and then poured. We somehow managed to find a tea shop by the Kona Expressway,
where we took shelter and gave the bikes rest, hoping that the engine will cool
down and the problem will be solved. The tea shop was a small one and setup on
a pond where fish farming was happening. We stayed there for around 30 minutes,
had tea and waited for the rain to stop.
Unfortunately the problem with the bike persisted even after
repair that we did at THREE garages. We have almost decided to cancel the trip
and return home as we didn’t think it’s possible to go to Tajpur and come back
with this bike. We were almost half way down the route then. We took multiple
halts, called the service center, did some troubleshooting following the
instruction over the call and finally managed to reach at the resort that we
have pre-booked at 5PM. Yes, it took 11:30 hours to reach at the location which
generally should have taken 4 hours.
5 PM
Lake view resort,
Tajpur
We checked in at the resort. I must say that the first
impression of the place was amazing. The place was full of greenery and
lakes. The resort has three giant lakes, one horse, one camel and a small area
for ducks, turkeys and other birds. We took some time to freshen up and then
got ready to hit the beach.
The beach was around 10 minutes’ walk from the resort
through the coastal pine forest, which is soothing to the eyes. The monsoon has
waved its magic wand over the natural beauty of the place I could not believe
what I was seeing. As a photography enthusiast I could not resist taking
pictures on the way. We all spent some time in the forest to take some amazing
pictures and moved towards the sea, which welcomed us with its roaring sound.
We were all excited to see the view in front of us. All the fatigue during the
journey vanished in a flash. Thankfully the rain has stopped and the weather
remained good during our stay.
We had a lot of fun at the beach, took pictures (obviously)
and then as it became dark we headed towards the shacks by the sea. There we
enjoyed some seafood, like pomfrets, barramundi fishes (bhetki), prawns and
crabs. Especially the pomfret and barramundi fish were delicious. Here some red
crabs paid us a visit too. We spent around 2 hours over there with the sea
breeze brushing past us.
Then we returned to
our resort by the local battery operated rickshaw called Toto, because trust me
you don’t wanna take that forest route at 9 in the night. We listened to some
music in our room which was by the lake, saw the pictures that we have taken
throughout the day, and then around 10:30PM we went to have our dinner at the
dining space of the resort. We have ordered rice, chicken curry, potato fry and
salad. I would say the food was average. We took a very comforting nap
afterwards. But we haven’t spent enough time enjoying at the beach before it
became dark. So as soon as we woke up the next day, we got ready and rode to the
beach. It was high tide time now, so the waves were hitting the road, well almost. We
had planned to take our bikes to the beach, but couldn’t. Now the beach was a
little more crowded than it was on our first visit. We spent around one and a
half hour there. We came back to the resort, packed our bags, started the bikes
and said good bye to the beautiful place.
Overall we had a very good experience at Tajpur. If you want
